06.

Sorry for not updating on these. First I went on a skiing trip with P.E. class and then I completely forgot this. However, here is fact #6!

I graduated from Folkeskolen (the Danish equivalent to primary and secondary school) in 2009. Back then, I was a straight A student. I didn’t have any grade lower than A on my diploma, and the A’s (and not A+) I had, were in something called “Math: Skills” and “Danish: Reading”. Everything else, A+.

This has changed drastically. I am, as stated in an earlier post, currently attending high school (gymnasium), and now the only A+’s I have are in spoken and written English and Social Studies. I came very close to fail Danish last year, so yeah, the good times are over. I am not saying I don’t have good grades - because I really do, but just saying that I am now an average student - which I very much enjoy.

When I was 8 years old, I was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. After having had serious trouble interacting with fellow classmates, slight tics and narrow interests, my mother took me to a doctor, who quickly discovered that I had Asperger’s or a variation of this (but I diagnosed with Asperger’s in the end). It was very mild however, and today I am nearly symptom-free. My tics are gone and whilst I still have narrow and seen by some, weird, interests, I have become better at socialising and making friends. The only lingering aspects of Asperger’s is my ongoing inability to understand sarcasm and irony and use it myself. It often creates awkward situations, because I really am blank. But it’s a part of me and my personality, and I wouldn’t be without it :)

04.

Okay, so given the fact that I forgot to upload one yesterday, I hereby give you two facts in one day!

I smoked back when I was 13 years old. My friends, who were all a tad older than me, did it and so I thought I had to, too. There wasn’t any group pressure and anything the sort, but nevertheless I started smoking and I smoked heavily for about a year. When I started feeling chronically fatigued and had a chronic cough (made even worse by my congenital asthma), I decided that I had to quit. It was awfully hard and I gained about 7 pounds, because of me substituting cigarettes with chocolate and other sweets.

To this date, I have only smoked a very few times after this, and my new, good friends are always there to make me stop, when I am about to fall in. Just have to say that I am 18 now, but I still feel the urge for a smoke sometimes.

Besides my native Danish, I speak fluent English. I talk with a pretty heavy English/British accent with slight hints of Irish and Cockney (I blame you, Rose Tyler!).

Due to the requirement of knowledge of a second foreign language here in Danish schools, I also speak German. Only ‘conversationable’ German, that is. And if you have a slight dialect or anything, I will be completely lost. I studied German for five years before finishing it last year, getting a B in both spoken and written German (impressive considering how bad I actually am).

Furthermore, I also understand both Swedish and Norwegian (Bokmål - I don’t get Nynorsk, srsly!). Because of the very close relationship shared by the Scandinavian countries, our languages are very similar. Whilst not speaking either Swedish or Norwegian, I perfectly understand it written and to a lesser degree spoken :)

02.

Born and raised by my Danish mother in Denmark, I found out a couple a years ago that I am in fact half British. I don’t know my biological father, and since he was born in Denmark I never suspected anything. But he was born to British parents, and he lived in England for 10 years doing his childhood. My nan is half Scottish and English, and my grandpa is entirely English. His family is based out of Stratford-upon-Avon, which is also where they lived before their death.

This revelation has made me prone to British culture and language, which I was interested in before, but now embrace even more.

01.

I am currently in my final year of the Danish somewhat equivalent of High School, called Gymnasium. My school, Rysensteen Gymnasium, is featured on this wikipedia page that explains what the Gymnasium is and how it works.

I am majoring in Social Sciences, English, Danish, and History - the former two are chosen by myself, whilst the latter two are mandatory - a fact I am not happy about. Besides those four subjects, I am currently taking Classical Studies (also mandatory) on the lowest level available, and Nature Geography and P.E. on a semi-high level (P.E. is also mandatory, but I am taking it on a higher level than the minimum requirement.)
